I’m Maria Druganova and I’m an artist and animator from Kyiv, Ukraine. I work in the medium of hand-drawn animation.
I value hand-crafted work and want to preserve the practice of human-made frame-by-frame animation. Animating using traditional techniques in this age of AI-generated content helps to set my artwork apart from visual works that are produced algorithmically.
I have experience working on a diverse range of projects which vary from simple short animation loops to longer animated narratives. One of my areas of expertise is creating music videos and visuals for musicians. My own work as a musician and my knowledge of visual arts enables me to collaborate with musical artists effectively. Most recently I created animations for the four episode documentary series “The Bread We Share” for Ukraine's national public broadcasting company, Suspilne.
My main goals with my animation works are to offer a therapeutic experience to the viewer, to address important social topics (for example, preserving Ukrainian traditions), and to bring hope and light to viewers in these often difficult times. When it's possible and appropriate for the project, I aim to create something with lighthearted and whimsical elements :)
